It seems it’s not all doom and gloom for UK business, as well as the record profits for Tescos, it appears our ‘weak as a kitten’ currency is reaping unexpected benefits for a certain online retail behemoth. Consumers from the continent are snapping up products from Amazon‘s UK site in record numbers, as reported by netimperative.

Our Gallic cousins and German counterparts are snapping up titles like Mama Mia! and Harry Potter books like they’re going out of fashion, so there’s no accounting for taste. However, it does go to show that in a truly global market and with international door-to-door delivery, online companies can buck the trend and benefit from fluctuations in the currency market.
UK Managing Director, Brian McBride said there had been sales growth across its sales departments, including in music after downloads from its new MP3 store exceeded five million tracks. For more about the Amazon’s MP3 story see my previous blog.
