The Daily Telegraph – 100 charged in US and Egypt over phishing scam
Police in the United States and Egypt have smashed a phishing scam described as the biggest cyber-crime investigation in US history. They charged nearly 100 people over the scheme which was aimed at stealing money from thousands of accounts at two US banks. More than 50 people were held in the US, mostly in Southern California, Nevada and North Carolina, and the ret in Egypt.

Royal Mail has lost a crucial contract with its second largest customer, the online retailer Amazon, as a wave of strikes threaten parcel deliveries in the busy pre-Christmas sales period.  The news comes on the eve of a national strike announcement by the Communication Workers Union that is likely to bring the simmering industrial dispute to the boil and further disrupt deliveries across the country.

The European Commission said Wednesday it was nearing a deal with Microsoft Corp. which would allow the commission to end its long-standing antitrust case against the company by the end of the year. As a final step, the commission is seeking feedback from consumers and software companies on an improved proposal by Microsoft to offer a choice of Web browsers with its Windows computer operating system, the commission said.

BBC – Web mail scam propagates itself
The industry-wide phishing scam that has affected popular web mail services such as Hotmail and Gmail, is spreading, according to experts. Security firm Websense says it has noticed a sharp rise in spam emails from Yahoo, Gmail and Hotmail accounts because infected accounts are sending personalised emails to contacts duggesting shopping sites, which are in fact fakes.
