Q&A with Lisa Smosarski, editor, Stylist

Lisa Smosarski is editor of the newly launched Stylist magazine. She previously worked as an editor at More, Bliss, and Smash Hits magazine.

What’s different about Stylist?

It’s a free and weekly premium magazine for women which has substance and style. Frankly, we made a conscience decision to be different from the others and to not include any speculative celebrity gossip or paparazzi photos in our work. If you look, we are the only publication to do this, certainly in the women’s category. We wanted to relate to the urban working woman who commutes and we wanted to give them quality, thought-provoking content that will give them what they need.

Why did you launch?

The men’s magazine ‘Shortlist’ has shown tremendous success across 10 cities and we saw that there was a real need in the market for a free and premium weekly magazine for women. Many anecdotes I’ve received have been from women who do not buy magazines anymore as they do not ‘speak’ to them anymore. We have had an amazing response from the women reading Stylist and it’s definitely proving to be exactly what was missing.

What is your distribution?

  • French Connection UK
  • Eurostar
  • Virgin and BA Lounges
  • Leeds, Birmingham, Manchester, Brighton, Glasgow and London

We think it’s a pretty good start!

Describe your magazine in three words.

Stylish, Witty, Intelligent
