Speed’s lunchtime learning session today featured guest presenter Claire O’Connell, from Facebook. Claire spent an hour sharing the latest statistics, best practice case studies and future plans in development from the phenomenon that over 1/3 of the UK population are now using regularly.
As anticipated, the stats and facts were pretty mind blowing. Here’s a summary of my favourite:
There are 40 billion photos on Facebook. If you put them side by side, they would loop 20 times around the globe.
If Facebook were a country, it would now be the world’s third largest – just behind China and India.
56% of Facebook’s users login daily.
Facebook has 150 million mobile users.
Typically, user interaction with brands on Facebook will be noted by 5% of their friends (Facebook defines ‘friends’ as people a user has interacted with within the last 30 days – not just people in their network).
If a user’s friend has connected to a brand’s page on Facebook, that user is 4.5 x more likely to follow suit.
The near future of our online experience is set to be entirely social, as the development and integration of Facebook plugins into sites across the web gains momentum.
