An inspirational train journey

Travelling back and forth from Newcastle to London each week I nearly always end up having dinner with someone interesting in the restaurant.

Last night I met an inspiring individual called Robin Alfred. He’s an Associate and Lead Presenter for Olivier Mythodrama. He also runs his own management consultancy and is a member of the Findhorn eco community, near Inverness in Scotland.

The Olivier Mythodrama is a method of leadership training that uses Shakespeare’s plays to explore aspects of leadership. It was created by Richard Olivier in 1997 whilst at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London.

Using great leadership stories from Shakespeare and intellectually robust models from organisational practice it draws on theatrical expertise to create transformational experiences.

Have a look at this video introducing lessons in inspirational leadership from Henry V. It’s a fascinating approach to management theory and practice but then Alfred was a fascinating man. He left a career in social work to join Findorn more than 10 years ago.

Findhorn is a spiritual community, education centre and ecovillage of 500 or so people on the east coast of Scotland near Aberdeen. I first read about the community after reading Nick Rosen’s book How to Live Off Grid and visiting his web portal off-grid.net. After meeting Alfred I’m going to seek it out.
