Here’s a quick update on my Geordie Jetsetter Geocoin project. In January and February 2009 I released three geocoins from a geocache near the Newcastle United football ground.
The three trackable geocoins in the educational project are being moved between geocaches to Newcastle, Australia; Newcastle, South Africa and Newcastle, US. So far they have been moved a total of 6,260 miles by 11 geocachers.

I’ve plotted to route that each coin has taken so far on Google Earth.
- Geordie Jetsetter Oz (red route) has been moved by six people 842 miles to Ostschweiz, Switzerland
- Geordie Jetsetter South Africa (yellow route) has been moved by three people 120 miles to the outskirts of Glasgow, Scotland
- Geordie Jetsetter US (blue route) has been moved by two people 5,300 miles to California US. It’s the only geocoin so far to reach its target continent
A geocoin is a special coin that has a unique tracking number so that its progress from geocache-to-geocache can be tracked online through logs on the Geocaching.com web site.
