Phil Sheldrake is pulling together people from across the UK PR industry for a workshop and discussion next Wednesday evening (21 April) on the semantic web.
It’s a nascent area that seeks to contextualise data on the web. It has been variously called the web of “feelings and things” and the “emotional web” and has its roots in Tim Berners-Lee’s vision of the web as a universal medium for data, information, and knowledge exchange.
That digital conversations are the future there’s no doubt. But we’ve yet to figure out a way of contextualising those conversations. It’s the reason why we struggle with measurement and is an issue that lies at the heart of any interaction on the web.
Here’s an issue where the UK PR industry has a very real opportunity to set an agenda and take a leadership role.
Speed is providing the venue in Leicester Square, London. If you’re interested in the semantic web and find yourself in central London 6.30pm this coming Wednesday, you’d be welcome to join us.
Update: Here’s a post from Phil (also see comments below) that provides more information about PR and the semantic web.

Looking forward to it Wadds.
Following my post last night (http://bit.ly/8ZOndc) I’ve had a couple of d’s (if that’s the shorthand way to write “direct messages on Twitter”) asking me to clarify what we mean by “Semantic Web” and where this work might take us.
I posted about just that topic mid-Feb as it happens: http://bit.ly/bTm1TF
Best.
