Returning to Madchester for Some Comms conference

Manchester is a city of incredible memories for me. I spent four formative years studying down the road in Salford as the sun set on the 80s.

It was a city alive with an amazing music scene that grew out of the Hacienda. Inspiral Carpets, James, Charlatans, Happy Mondays and Stone Roses were all part of the Madchester scene.

I still can’t quite believe that Tony Wilson is not longer with us. One day I’ll make the pilgrimage to his resting place in Chorlton-cum-Hardy and pay my respects.

With a bit of luck it may even be next month given I’m heading up to the Bridgewater Hall to speak at the Some Comms Social Media Conference on 3 March. The conference follows the recent Some Comms Awards; judges will share best practice and winners talk about their work.

Speed took home the award for Best Business Blog Award so I’m planning to talk about the value of investing time and expertise in your business blog and the ROI great content can achieve.

Other winners including FreshNetworks will be discussing its groundbreaking use of Foursquare with their Jimmy Choo Trainer Hunt campaign which saw four thousand Choo fans scouring the capital for the elusive footwear and generated acres of traditional media as a result.

The British Library, UK SoundMap will talk about an innovative use of crowd sourcing inviting the public to record the sounds of the early 21st Century on their mobiles and upload them to an ever growing archive.

Branded3 will present its free Twitter app called Twitition which has enabled over a million people to participate in easily created online petitions on every subject under the sun.
