Ken Robinson talks passionately about passion

Sir Ken Robinson is one of my greatest influences as a manager and a parent. Another great parental influence at the moment is Elizabeth Hartley-Brewer author of Talking to Tweenies but that’s another story.

I first heard Robinson speaking at TED where his thesis was that our education system takes a conveyor belt approach to uniformly teaching core subjects and fails to help kids recognise their passions.

Robinson believes that everyone is born with extraordinary capability and that unlocking that talent is the key to realising our true potential. Here he delivers a secular sermon as part of the School of Life series and challenges the audience to identify its passion.

The controversial website WikiLeaks collects and posts highly classified documents and video. Founder Julian Assange, who’s reportedly being sought for questioning by US authorities, talks to TED’s Chris Anderson about how the site operates, what it has accomplished — and what drives him. The interview includes graphic footage of a recent US airstrike in Baghdad.

Thinking Digital: Exploring human computer interfaces

Jonny Chung Lee from Microsoft R&D presented a range of computer interface concepts to delegates at Thinking Digital (#tdc).

The highlight of his session was multi-touch platforms that combine displays and touch interfaces such as Microsoft Surface to combine the physical space with the digital. He also covered electronic paper, screen technologies and electronic paper.

I originally discovered Jonny via a lecture at TED in April 2008 where he presented his low cost Minority Remote-style wiimote hack. Delegates at Thinking Digital were treated to a quick snapshot of this project.

Watch the original video.
