Last Friday we attended the 31st Toque d’Or awards luncheon, at the Royal Lancaster hotel, to see who would be crowned as the winners of this year’s prestigious culinary competition
Toque d’Or provides real life challenges that inform, test and push both students and apprentices in the most exciting ways. By linking education with industry, Toque d’Or presents a series of unique experiences which bridge the gap between the classroom and exciting reality of industry.
Participating in the competition makes such a huge difference to the contestants lives and it was clear to see how much it meant to everyone there. The story telling videos were very emotional, showing the human side to the competition. It was very touching to see the friendships that had developed throughout, as well as the drive and ambition of the young chefs.
The sustainability message that Speed developed for this year’s competition was achieved in three key areas: sustainable food, sustainable careers and a sustainable future for the industry.
This message was prevalent throughout the awards, from the branding, to the story telling, to the speaker links and the overall ethos of the event. The winner’s interviews even discussed how important they felt the theme was and how proud they were to be part of a competition that was raising awareness of such an important issue.
We also hosted 3 key industry media for the luncheon, who were busy posting and live streaming the winning announcements. Coverage from the event has already been secured in top tier industry titles and we’re looking forward to seeing the rest of the coverage come in over the next few days!
