Each summer the Speed team join the Celtic Manor in hosting Polo at the Manor, an event which is known for prosecco, picnic hampers and Pimms! Not only is it the perfect place to watch a spot of polo in the sunshine, it’s a great chance to brush shoulders with celebs and sports stars.
Over the years, the Speed team have secured impressive amounts of coverage for the event, so this year, not only did we have to strive to beat our PB but also manage two events as Celtic Manor introduced ‘Sport and Speed’ for the first time – an action-packed weekend celebrating horsepower in all its glory, featuring Polo at the Manor on the Saturday and the all new Motoring at the Manor on the Sunday!
With our main objective being to drive ticket sales, we executed a hard-working press office targeting national and regional media to secure news coverage for our favourite famous faces who would be attending the event, Lydia Bright and Welsh rugby stars, Gareth Anscombe, James Hook and Liam Williams.
Thanks to a flurry of coverage pre-event, Celtic Manor hosted over 2,000 guests despite the stormy weather earlier in the week. We also achieved 43 pieces of coverage in top tier media including the Mail Online, Sun and Daily Star and secured interviews with New!, Closer and Capital radio to name but a few, allowing us to reach an audience of over 26m.
What’s more, regional influencer partnerships allowed us to share the full Celtic Manor experience with locals through Instagram stories and news feeds driving engagement and raising awareness of the event for future attendees.
After an evening of schmoozing our Polo journalists into the early hours (like the good old PR days), the team were back on the field for the Celtic Manor’s first ever motoring event, Motoring at the Manor.
Overnight, the pitch was transformed to a place where visitors could see over 200 of the best-in-class motors, including classic cars, hyper cars, supercars, race and rally cars, in a luxurious lifestyle garden party atmosphere.
Almost 2,000 car fanatics flocked to the resort for a Father’s Day to remember, joined by a host of motoring and regional media, as well as returning celebrity guests Lydia Bright and family.
The Speed team hosted media interviews with the Queen of the motoring world and Guinness World Record legend, Rosemary Smith, and pictures from the event were sold into the press, helping to drive awareness of the debut event in top tier media.
So, after a weekend of driving lots of coverage, hosting numerous top tier journalists and drinking lots of glasses of Frangelico liquor (thanks to Fay Strang from the Sun!), we walked into Monday with huge smiles on our faces at a hugely successful weekend and one very happy client. But it’s not over yet…next stop, Celebrity Cup.
