World Book Day

It’s that day of the year again, when we usually see our social channels flooded with cute pictures of children dressed up as their favourite literary characters. Although it’s a little different this year, with the majority of schools not open, at Speed we still wanted to celebrate World Book Day. In particular, we wanted to support our company charity, Ablaze Bristol, which seeks to tackle inequality of opportunity for young people in the South West, and our partner primary school, St Barnabas, where we volunteer to help the children with their reading and literacy skills.

At Speed, we are committed to supporting our local community and nurturing a love of reading is something that is really close to our hearts. Whilst we haven’t been able to visit the children at St Barnabas recently, we have been able to help them celebrate World Book Day. We have surprised our ‘reading buddies’ by sharing videos of the Speed team reading short stories, or passages from the classics, to the children to make sure we continue to inspire their love for reading, just from a distance.

However, it’s not all about the children today. Reading is a fantastic form of escapism for us all and we felt that we could all benefit from a little bit of that right now. So, as part of our celebrations, the Speed team is taking the opportunity to switch off and delve into the land of literature for a couple of hours today. Whether it’s a hot new release, OK! Magazine or a Harry Potter, we will all be taking some time to read and enjoy a break from our screens.

If you would like to help Ablaze in the fantastic work that they do to enhance opportunities for local children in Bristol, you can donate £5 by texting ABLAZE 5 to 70085*
